“To Save the Republic: Expand Democracy by Expanding the Electorate"

THE PROBLEM According to the PA voter file and data from the US Census citizen voting age population, there are more than 2.1 million Pennsylvanians eligible to vote, but not registered, or at severe risk of being dropped from the voter rolls, due to infrequent voting records. Too many of Pennsylvania’s voters from Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color are disengaged from the democratic process. The largest voter registration gap exists within Pennsylvania’s communities of color. The lack of civic participation is an institutional failure, and a result of lack of engagement with non-voters and those who inconsistently vote.

A SOLUTION: Expand the electorate in historically disenfranchised communities to ensure all Pennsylvanians believe their voices are heard at the ballot box, as we push back on attempts to disrupt our free and fair elections, and strip away our rights and freedoms during the 2024 election seasons.

SPEAKER:

Kadida Kenner is the founding chief executive officer of the New Pennsylvania Project (NPP) and the New PA Project Education Fund (NPPEF). She is a tireless advocate for social and economic justice issues, and is motivated to empower and excite the electorate to enthusiastically vote in every election -- all the way down the entire ballot. As a result of these organizations, more than 35,000 Pennsylvanians have been registered to vote in the Commonwealth in the last two years.

Kadida has led efforts to stop the passage of a judicial gerrymandering constitutional amendment, raise the minimum wage, fairly fund public education, protect federal courts from problematic judicial nominees, and protect the state courts from extremist attempts to undermine their independence.

Kadida also serves as co-chair of Why Courts Matter - Pennsylvania, an advocacy campaign of the New PA Project Education Fund seeking to protect the independence of our state and federal courts, and educate the electorate about their importance.

The Temple University graduate resides in the Philly suburbs and counts civil rights organizing icon, and West Chester, Pennsylvania native Bayard Rustin as one of her civil rights heroes.
