Hybrid Presentation

On Good Friday, April 14th, 1865, Our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, was mortally wounded while attending the play "Our American Cousin" at Ford's Theatre as the American Civil War was drawing to a close.  Lincoln was the first American president to be assassinated and was carried out by the well-known stage actor, John Wilkes Booth, as part of a larger conspiracy in a bid to revive the Confederate cause.  Booth’s co-conspirators were assigned the tasks to kill Secretary of State William H. Seward and Vice President Andrew Johnson.

By simultaneously eliminating the top three people in the administration, Booth and his collaborators hoped to sever the head of the United States government.  Lincoln died the following day at 7:22am.  Join historical reenactor, lecturer and tour guide Michael Jesberger as we revisit the tragedy and sorrow of this fateful event in American history.

About the presenter: Michael Jesberger is an independent military historian who specializes in the American Revolution and Civil War time periods. He is a member of numerous history-based organizations and active in the reenactment community.
