Erie Maritime History - Erie’s Shipbuilding Past
Erie, Pennsylvania is home to a geological anomaly, Presque Isle – a “sandspit” which created one of the few natural harbors on the Great Lakes. Join Historian Charles Johnson as he takes you on a virtual time machine to discuss the region’s rich shipbuilding heritage from the first construction, through the War of 1812, the World Wars, and up to the modern day.
Presenter: Charles Johnson is the Museum Education Director at the Erie Maritime Museum in Erie, PA. A maritime historian, he has worked in the field since 2016. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public History with an emphasis in maritime/naval history.
