Erie Maritime History - Erie’s Shipbuilding Past

Erie, Pennsylvania is home to a geological anomaly, Presque Isle – a “sandspit” which created one of the few natural harbors on the Great Lakes.  Join Historian Charles Johnson as he takes you on a virtual time machine to discuss the region’s rich shipbuilding heritage from the first construction, through the War of 1812, the World Wars, and up to the modern day.

Presenter Charles Johnson is the Museum Education Director at the Erie Maritime Museum in Erie, PA.  A maritime historian, he has worked in the field since 2016.  He holds a Master’s Degree in Public History with an emphasis in maritime/naval history.
